Bernardine A Dickman
Director of Competitive Swimming
A Native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bernie is a graduate of Xavier University where she earned a degree in Elementary Education and was captain of the women’s swim team, earning Swimmer of the Year three consecutive seasons.
Bernie began her coaching career in 1985 as head coach of Madeira Swim and Tennis Club in Cincinnati, where she coached the team to two PPSL Silver Division Rec League titles. In 1991 Bernie joined the coaching staff of the CAC Seahawks, a USA club team. Bernie worked with the leadership of the program to help grow the age group program. During her tenure with CAC, the team saw its first Junior National qualifiers. In 1993 the Dickman family relocated to Indiana where Bernie went on to be the founder and head coach of the SIYMCA/Batesville YMCA Stingrays. In addition to setting up the team, parent advisory committee and coaching staff and securing funding, Bernie coached the Stingrays to 4 consecutive undefeated SEISA Conference seasons and titles. The team also produced several IHSAA state finalists, USA JO Age group qualifiers and Champions, YMCA National qualifiers, and a Junior National qualifier under her leadership.
Bernie became Head Age Group Coach for the Countryside YMCA Torpedoes in Lebanon, Ohio in 2005 and over the course of her career with the Torpedoes she coached many first-time YMCA National Qualifiers, OSHAA state qualifiers, including an OSHAA state champion in the women’s 100yd Fly, and her groups won age group high point at the SWOYSL AA Championships from 2009-2015. In 2013 Bernie served as part of the Long Course YMCA National Championship team coaching staff. In 2016 Bernie joined the coaching staff at Coffman Family YMCA as the Head Age Group Coach. At the SWOYSL championships her groups posted over 90% on best times, and had 4 new Great Lakes Zone qualifiers. She also had the pleasure of working with the team’s head coach in the coaching of the team’s Olympic Time Trial qualifier.
Recently, Bernie was selected to be part of the 2017 American Swim Coach Association’s(ASCA) Fellows class. She, along with 4 other coaches, has been tasked with the project of looking at “The American Swim Team” and doing a SWOT analysis of the health of competitive swimming in America. She will be working with, and mentored by, many of the country’s current and former coaching greats, including this year’s Olympic coaches Bob Bowman and David Marsh.
Bernie is a certified by YMCA, USA, NISCA and OHSAA Swimming. She is also ASCA Level 4 certified. Her philosophy on competitive swimming is simple: Practice cannot make perfect as no one is perfect. Practice makes habits… PRACTICE the CORRECT HABITS!
Associate Head Coach

Coach Tim Anderson grew up in Middletown, Rhode Island where he swam competitively from ages 7-18 for
the Newport County YMCA Wahoos. In college, Anderson pursued his other passion, studying music
and sound recording while performing in New York, Boston, and New Haven, CT.
Coach Tim returned to his hometown after college and took a position with his high school alma
mater, Middletown High School. In his 4 years with the high school team, participation doubled and the team rose to a top 10 state ranking in 2012. Anderson also coached with his former club team, the Newport YMCA Wahoos, and a masters group at a private health club. There, he coached long distance open water swimmers in 5k, 6k, 8k, and 10k races for New England Masters, put together clinics for adult swimmers and coached competitive masters swimmers, an American record and National Champion title in the breaststroke.
Following his time coaching in Rhode Island, Coach Tim was hired by SwimMAC Carolina in
Charlotte, North Carolina. While at SwimMAC Carolina, where Coach Tim spent 5 years, he learned from U.S. Olympic Head Coach David Marsh as well as Coach Pam Swander and Coach Sarah Holman. Coach Tim’s primary focus at SwimMAC was developing 11-12 age group swimmers as well as 13-14 swimmers. During this time, Coach Tim partook in the development of numerous Jr. National, Futures, Zones and Sectional level athletes. Coach Tim’s other main focus at SwimMAC was putting together an open water swim program for the club. Through SwimMAC and North Carolina Swimming LSC, he participated with the NC Open Water Zones Team in 2016 which took place in Ft. Myers Florida.
Coach Tim has learned and has been mentored by some of the most accomplished swimming Coaches in the sport of swimming and has observed and been on deck with some of the most accomplished athletes in the world including Ryan Lochte, Katie Meili, Kathleen Baker, Anthony Ervin, Micah Lawrence, Alex Meyer, Ashley Twichell, Kelsi Worrel and Cammile Adams.
Coach Tim is a YMCA and ASCA Certified Coach as well as a member of NISCA. His focus as a Coach is teaching skills and is a very strong believer in long term development of young athletes by developing correct technique so they're ready for high performance at the senior level.
In addition to assisting Coach Bernie with the curriculum for the age group program for the Stypers, Coach Tim will be Lead Coach of both Bronze and Gold groups.
Coach Tim loves music and making music, windsurfing, and traveling when he's not coaching.
Suzanne coaches both the Age Jr. and Gold Squads at Mill Pond. She graduated from The University of Vermont where she worked as a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons during the summers. Her interest in swimming was renewed when the oldest of her two children joined the Strypers. She eventually left a career as a Software Engineer to spend more time with her family and began working as a lifeguard at the Mill Pond YMCA. More recently she has taken on the role of Swim Team Administrator at Mill Pond. A regular swimmer in the Masters Program as well as a certified USA Swimming Official, she is excited to continue her involvement with The Strypers.
Candy was brought to the SSYMC to coach the master’s team. She was then brought on board with the Strypers, to develop the young swimmers. Candy spent over 10 years racing Triathlon professionally. She was the 2002 Xterra World Champion. Sponsors included Speedo, Saucony, PowerBar, Oakley, Aquaman and Fuji Bikes.
Tripp currently coaches Age Jr and Age Group at Emilson and has also worked with our spring stroke clinic. Tripp is currently a student at Masssasoit Community college where he studies Media Communications with a focus in TV, Film and Radio. Tripp works as a lifeguard, Swim instructor, and a supervisor on top of coaching at the Y. Tripp is one of the only coaches with a TV Credit on a show that he worked on last spring/summer.
Elizabeth E Belmonte
Lizy coachs the gold group in hanover and this is her first year coaching. She also coached summer strypers. Lizy has been working at the YMCA for 5 years as a lifeguard and a swim instuctor. She is the best person you'll ever meet!! She pushes her kids to their full potential and always has fun in the process. You can almost always hear her yelling across the pool deck to someone or something. Lizy is full of tons of postive energy and makes for a pleasant atmosphere on the pool deck. Lizy also designed the new swim team logo.
